Another meaning of the word svithe

.

And you can buy frozen sheep's head
from the frozen goods section in any
Icelandic supermarket, except the
Icelanders have a fancy name for it,
it's called "sviĆ°" (pron 'svithe')
Half a sheep's head (sawn down the
middle) all wrapped up in cling-wrap
and polysterene, that frozen eye looking
up at you out of the chest freezer.

I did come around to announce--but probably to the youth moreso.

I think I went around to the adults too thought...

  4. Oh, how gross. It reminds me of when I went to a really nice restaurant hotel buffet in China and they were serving halves of duck heads, roasted, complete with everything duck heads normally contain. I may usually be an adventurous eater, but I think things that come from heads are a bit too adventurous for me.

  6. I may or may not have asked this before (my memory is shoddy) but what is "svithe" anyway?

Oh! a happy question! One I am fine with answering again.

Svithe is yet one more word my diseased mind has created, thinking the rest of the world will follow my example and it will beat the latest bootilicious into the Oxford.

It's a portmanteau made by combining "seven" and "tithe"--the idea being that one day of seven, my blog will be donated to God.

Of course, whether or not God wants anything to do with Thmusings is another question entirely....

But if he wants it, I'm willing to share.

I would make some crack about the generous kind of guy I am, but let's face it--generosity to deity cannot possibly mean anything to deity other than in the slightest symbolic sense.

  8. I like your definition of svithe much better. And I would really appreciate it if you would blog something else so I didn't have to be reminded of the sheep's half head ten times a day (read: every time I check your blog).
