Please tell me

.

Those of you who have recently switched to Beta, how painful/less was it? How much bother? How did it alter posting, templating, etc? Did you find it worth it? I'm considering it, but fear regret.

Especially tell me how much time it all took to get everything straight.

  2. I have a separate Beta account (the one that shows me as "Ben") and a private family blog I run with that account. It's not hugely different, just a little more user-friendly. The main things I like are the labeling feature (read: controlled-vocabulary search terms) and, in the case of the blog I made for my family members who are not as exhibitionistic as I, the ability to make a blog accessible by invitation only. Interestingly, Blogger offered me the chance to upgrade my Master Fob account this week, but when I tried to accept the invitation it didn't actually let me do it. It takes me to a default explanation that says that large blogs (1000+ posts, which mine is not) cannot be transferred. I'm not sure whether the real reason is that I've reformatted my blog too much to make the transfer (making it bigger than the number of posts suggests), or that I am an administrator on two blogs that have non-Beta members. Sigh.

As for you, I vote for progress, even if you know there will be unavoidable bumps.

  3. Didn't seem to cause me too much difficulty. It did merge two accounts I have together, as I used the same e-mail for both, which was annoying, but that was more something I'd caused. Otherwise, editing and everything else seems a lot more smooth compared to the original, and categorizing the posts is right easy.

  4. At the beginning beta was a huge pain, but I think they have worked out most of the kinks. And I find it overall a lot more easy to change formatting. The only problem that I have had recently was Edgy couldn't access my archived posts when I had them in the drop down box... I still haven't figured out why.

  5. Do it.

However, be aware of the super secret keyboard shortcuts. I can't tell you about them, as I'm still discovering them by accident.

Best thing about beta: user-friendly, and I haven't lost a post yet.

Worst thing: Other than the super secrets...I have to log in with my gmail account and password, and sometimes, when commenting, it doesn't takes me away from my comment and back to my dashboard.

  6. It hasn't been bad at all for me.

  7. Do it.

They're moving to it anyway and you'll probably be forced to switch at some point anyway--isn't that what a beta sight is?

    It's painless.

    I make blogging fun!

  8. I haven't done it yet. I'm scared to. I find that now I can't comment on those blogs who HAVE transferred to beta. I guess I'm just holding out as long as humanly possible.

  9. I prefer the beta. Really! And it only took like... two seconds and everything in my template stayed the same. You have more options if you want to use one of their templates, too, I think. So that's cool. And, yeah, the labels are pretty sweet as Master Fob said. The only reason my blog is quirky sometimes is because of the template I chose (which is not offered from blogger) and I haven't bothered to go through and find out what's wrong with it.

  10. I had to use a new browser to post at all and even then I occasionally can not post. It tells me my password is invalid.

  11. I can not leave a comment on any blog that is not beta. So, therefore I hate it.
