Ah, crap.

Handler with Accordion
.

Well, I missed Chuck Palahniuk. And I'm sure I'll miss tomorrow with Daniel Handler and Christopher Moore. Saturday I'll miss Michael Chabon, Tuesday, Barbara Kingsolver; May's last Wednesday, Sherman Alexie.

This sucks.

But it's well within my power to go.

You see, the perhaps stranger problem is how dizzily nervous I am about listening to any of these people read. Or watching them talk. Or having them sign my books.

I wonder why that is.....

Actually, I can tell you exactly why that is: it's because I don't want to approach them as a reader only, but also as a fellow writer, and I don't really feel I've yet earned that right. And so I don't feel up to going at all.

Even though I know perfectly well there will be no more entertaining place on the entire planet tomorrow night than in the same room with Moore and Snicket.

  2. I've been reading Chabon in my spare time, even though I know I shouldn't.

    Dang grad school.

  3. Would have loved to meet Chuck, even if I found him unsettling. I highly recommend going to see Neil Gaiman if you get the chance. His readings are great (the last two I saw where of then unpublished stories) and his stories are funny and interesting.

I have actually seen Neil Gaimaon, though in the press, never spoke to him in person.
