So how come I have never heard of Arthur Rackham before? Because this is my new favorite portrait of my favorite birds--whether twa or any other number of them. And I was just nosing around the Internet and I found all sorts of other terrific Rackham illustrations. Have you seen him do Alice in Wonderland? Great stuff. What an artist! What a fantastic body of work!
But, on the other hand, he is dead....
Awesome Th! I love Alice in Wonderland. AND the name Rackham. my favourite post this week!

ReplyDeleteThanks! I must be on a role!
Love the illustrations. Also, gotta say that the site being in French made me feel so much more cultured today.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the heads up on the illustrator
Thanks for linking back to fromoldbooks for the twa corbies.
ReplyDeleteHe might be dead but you know, all the best guys are dead, and they stole all our good ideas :-)

ReplyDeleteMy pleasure. And, Liam, if you're part of that website, thank you for that service. It's a great site and I look forward to watching it grow!
Well they don't make 'em like they used to. Rackham (1867-1939) is one of the greatest illustrators to come out of the UK, if not THE greatest illustrator.
ReplyDeleteThis illustration is from "Some British Ballads" published in 1919.
